Flowering Shrubs

Height 2’-3’. Width 2’-3’. This miniature butterfly bush has all the appeal in a smaller package! Flowers from mid summer to frost. Pruning is generally not needed, but may be trimmed in spring. Fragrant flowers. Deer resistant. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.

Hydrangea – Endless Summer     Height 5’. Width 4’. Deciduous shrub well known for its ability to flower on old and new growth. Shades from blue to pink, depending on the acidity of the soil. Acidic soil-blue blooms and alkaline soil-pinker blooms.

Hydrangea – Little Lime     Height 3’-5’. Width 3’-5’. Sibling of Limelight, Little Lime is a petite rounded shrub with lime green blooms opening on strong stems with no drooping. Excellent as a mass bold planting. Soft green flowers turn pink and burgundy in fall. Excellent for cutting.

Hydrangea – Vanilla Strawberry     Height 6’-7’. Width 4’-5’. Enormous flower heads are a blend of vanilla and strawberry. The movement of color begins with vanilla-white becoming pink, ending with a strawberry-red as night temperatures drop. Upright growing, then cascade later in the season. Excellent for fresh or dried flower arrangements.

Height 4’. Width 4-6’. A compact shrub with glossy, dark green foliage and white blooms in spring. Makes an excellent low hedge.

Lilac – Miss Kim     Height 4’-7’. Width 5’-7’. Fragrant lavender flowers appear in mid to late spring. Green foliage turns to an attractive burgundy color before falling to the ground in autumn.

Height 8’-15’. Width 6’-12’. A large, upright deciduous shrub with fragrant clusters of lilac colored blooms in mid-spring.

Height 8’-15’. Width 6’-12’. A magnificent spring blooming shrub featuring intensely fragrant white flowers in upright panicles; upright, multi-stemmed habit, very hardy.

Height 4’-6’. Width 4’-6’. This is a deciduous compact rounded shrub. It’s leaves are bright yellow in spring and early summer and turn to greenish yellow as the season progresses.

Ninebark – Little Devil     Height 3’-4’. Width 3’-4’. A compact upright shrub with burgundy leaves; features small pinkish-white spirea-like flowers followed by subtle reddish fruit, and interesting peeling papery bark; extremely tough and durable.

Height 5’-8’. Width 5’-8’. Has dark foliage and a compact growing habit. The attractive wine colored leaves will turn a pale yellow in fall. Pretty clusters of white flowers with a blush of pink will cover the shrub in early summer.

Potentilla     Height 3’. Width 3’. A fine textured, small shrub covered with white flowers. Deciduous, dense, rounded habit. Foliage is green and turns to yellow-brown in the fall.

Height 3’-5’. Width 3’-5’. Upright, grayish white stems and lobed, silvery gray leaves. In late summer and autumn Russian sage produces small, tubular lavender flowers. Flowering for two or three months.

Sandcherry     Height 6’-10’. Width 5’-8’. Upright, deciduous shrub with reddish purple foliage that retains its color throughout the summer. Fragrant, solitary, white flowers with pink tints appear in spring after foliage emerges. Flowers may produce a sparse amount of black-ish purple fruits in July that birds enjoy.

Height 3’-4’. Width 4’-5’. Dense, rounded deciduous shrub with flat-headed, bright pink flower clusters in late spring. Leaves are bronzy reddish when young, maturing to blue-green, then changing to reddish again in the fall.

Height 2’-3’. Width 2’-3’. Blue Mist provides garden color from midsummer through fall. Also called blue beard and blue spirea, the plant earns its names from the fragrant, purple-blue flower spikes that adorn it for most of the summer season and that attract bees and butterflies.

Spirea – Magic Carpet     Height 2’-3’. Width 2’-3’. Deciduous, rounded shrub with vibrant foliage. In the spring, it emerges orangish-red to reddish purple, then matures to a yellow golden color. In the fall it changes back to a colorful display of oranges and reds. Pink flowers cover the plant in late spring.

Weigela – Wine and Roses     Height 4’-5’. Width 4’-6’. Abundant reddish pink blooms in April to June, and sporadically on new growth through October. Foliage is glossy green and burgundy-purple, turning very dark purple in the fall.
